While we are still in the year, I thought I'd update my blog for the last time this year expressing my thank you to each one of you who has taken the time out to visit my blog, listen to my songs and comment/email and keep me going with ur encouragement. Thank you SO very much and it just means a whole lot to me :) I look forward to ur continued support in the coming years! :)

Here's wishing u all and ur families Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

This year, there were some very beautiful songs rendered by Shreya that became popular and I thought I'd record a few of my favorites, a medley of sorts and I hope you all like it! All the songs I have picked are originally duets she has sung with Mohit Chauhan and Sonu Niigam.

The first song I have picked, Kissa Tera from Kismat Konnection and the last one, Teri Ore from Singh is King has music scored by Pritam and the second song, Soniyo, by Raju Singh.

I have also recorded a duet with Soumitra from the new movie Kurbaan, Shukranallah, and you can listen to it here

Thanks so much for listening! :)
Vidyuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01574630098937785654noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28459726.post-40175947354396290532009-11-01T16:26:00.003-05:002009-11-01T16:43:01.321-05:00Jaane Kya Baat HainMy favorite season inspired me to record and update my blog and I’m back, tho' out of practise.... ek break ke baad :)
I remember watching this movie with a bunch of friends especially for Sunny Deol who was then our favorite hero after watching Betaab!!
Talking about the music, this movie has 2 beautiful songs that has lasted on my favorite list all these years ..Jaane Kya Baat Hain and Aur Kya Ehde Wafa. Never get enough of listening to these.. RD’s music has that spell on me! In the recent few years, I have been hooked on to the original (maybe, because RD most often tried in Bangla first!) Chhoke Naame Brishti by Ashaji and as similar as it is, it is quite different in style and every time I have sung either of these, I have always remained confused and never been able to follow or remember the variations in the original songs! To add to it, Asha ji has come out with her version of Jaane Kya Baat hain and Shreya Ghoshal with Choke Naame Brishti which are absolutely beautiful! I have them on my player back to back and each of them is a precious gem, end of which I can only say “aah..what a composition!”
Here is my attempt of one of my RD-Lataji favorite. I hope u like my effort and thank you for listening!
Shantha, Thank you So much for requesting this track for me :)

Movie Name : Sunny (1984)
Original Singer : Lata Mangeshkar
Music Director : R D Burman
Lyrics : Anand Bakshi
Sung by : Vidyu

Vidyuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01574630098937785654noreply@blogger.com24tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28459726.post-18158806646809751122009-06-19T05:30:00.004-05:002009-06-19T05:33:22.865-05:00Piya Piya Piya….Asha ji has always been my favorite singer and an inspiration. And when it is a song sung by her with my other favorite singer "humare mazake kishoreda" as she fondly referred to him, it is magic! :) To add to it, this composition is by the great O P Nayyar sahab!
In Piya Piya Piya, Asha & Kishore with their inimitable style have shown how endearing and romantic a song can be with minimal music/orchestration. Kishore made yodelling popular in the Indian film music industry and was the only singer who could those days. He apparently learnt the art listening to an Austrian singer. I love the yodelling in this song and Soumitra has done a fabulous job with it. The whole song is picturised on a moving horse cart (tonga) and the horse trotting beats continue throughout the entire song. This was popularly used by O P Nayyar in many of his compositions.
Here is our attempt of this beautiful, light hearted, happy tune and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed singing it! Thank you so much for listening! :)

Movie Name : Baap Re Baap
Original Singers : Asha & Kishore Kumar
Music Director : O.P. Musically, my ma was the greatest influence and I remember her teaching my brother and me to recognise raagas based on their "chalan" and catching the "pakkad" of every raag to identify and she'd have these little quizes making us guess the raag of a song.. On Vividbharati, she would have the whole family listen to Sangeet Sarita and Swar Sudha which had classical music themes..and the raag of the day introduced by a clip of film song based on that raag.. I think that was the way I learnt to recognise different raags as I never really got a chance to learn hindustani classical music which was what my parents always wanted me to..
Ma would sing Kuhu Kuhu and make us identify the raags..Sohini..Bahar..Jaunpuri..and Yaman....
About 12 years ago I got an opportunity to learn ...but that couldn't last for more than a year ..which I still regret very much :( Keerti ji I am very thankful for those few months that I could learn from you and hope you will listen to this! :-)

This song was originally composed in Telugu in 1957 for Suwarna Sundari by Sri. Adi Narayana Rao which was later made in both Hindi & Tamil. The Telugu version is sung by Ghantasala & Jikki, Tamil by Ghantasala & Susheela and Hindi by Rafi & Lata.

I have always wanted to sing this ... and here is my attempt of Kuhu Kuhu. He first became known in Malayalam cinema for his music in the movie “Chemmeen” in 1965. I was in school when 10 years later ThomaSleeha released and I remember waiting for the songs to be played on the radio from this movie and some others released the same year like Rasaleela and Raagam which had some of the best tunes made in the 70s. Vrischika Penne was one of them and what I love most in this song is the tabla in the interlude music and the beautiful expressions by KJY & Sabita. Salilda’s music always had some fantastic tabla in it. Remember O Sajna and Na Jiya lagena? His distinct style always stands out and when u listen to a tune u can instantly say “this has got to be a Salilda composition” :)

Sabita Chowdhury, another great singer of yester years, has sung many songs in Malayalam composed by her husband, the legendary Salilda. When Joe and I talked about singing a duet, I suggested we try this as it’s such a fun, happy tune sung beautifully by KJY and Sabita. Joe, as you all know is one of the first few who got into music blogging and also introduced me to the fun world of blogging more than 3 years ago. Thanks Joe for singing this with me and as always, u sound great! :) I hope u like our attempt :)
We watched Pranayavarnangal and loved the movie and most of all, Vidyasagar’s compositions. Aaro viral meeti is my favorite and I somehow have heard KJY’s version more than Chitra’s and am certainly influenced by that one. Though my daughters know no Malayalam, they too listen to most of the songs I sing/listen to and I was touched when they asked me to record this song for them! Pratika, Prarthana, this one is for you, on ur special day! :) Hope u like it!

I hope this new year will bring all of u happier times! :-)

Like many, I almost always fast forward TV ads but one of those times I did not, I saw the preview of this movie called “Chamku”.. the name itself sounded funny but there was this one tune that kind of got me interested. I did a search and heard the whole song and I really loved the composition by Monty Sharma. Shreya as usual is magical! Her voice modulation is at its best in the beginning alaap. Any song she sings, she makes it sound so simple but when u try to record it’s a whole different story! :-D Shail too has done a great job with this..(I absolutely love his Saawariya title song! )
Here is our attempt of this beautiful duet.. Blame it on being plain lazy or on empty nest syndrome! :) Songs from Saawariya have been quite my favorite since the time they have been out and this one especially...Shreya sounds magical and her expressions are just fabulous! (What’s new about that!!!) Here’s my attempt of this beautiful composition by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the director of Saawariya. Which means the first showers of the beautiful rainy season.. The songs from this famous Kannada movie picturised predominantly in beautiful Coorg, have captivated me from the first time I heard them. Thanks to my family in Bangalore, they introduced us to these tunes while some even have them as their ringtones on cell phones! But can’t blame them for that!!! The tunes are just amazing. I have never been so much into Kannada songs as I am now since I lived in Bangalore in the years when music had kind of temporarily left my life and the only songs I’d listen to were the ones MDH would highly recommend...his favorites! The ones that I still listen to are the oldies like Beladingalaagi Baa and Cheluveya Notta Chena which will always remain popular among the kannadigas.
My recent trip to Bangalore, a year after the movie was released; the songs were as popular as it were when I was there a year ago! The songs are a super blend of beautiful lyrics that touch ur heart (Jayant Kaikini..u make us Saraswats proud of u!), melody that totally lifts u up ( Mano Murthy..I search for songs that hv music composed by MM ) and voices that belong to living legends. I have been drawn to 2 songs especially...both by Sonu Nigam. The title song Mungalru Maleye and Anisuthide Yako. The tunes have grown on me so much that when I got hold of the karaoke track of Anisuthide, (Thanks SO much Joe for the track ) , I thought I must sing the Shreya Ghoshal version. Though the tune is the same, the lyrics are different. Just beautiful... Shreya, has made this even special adding her special singing style….and it brings back memories of my drive from Bangalore to Coorg!
Here is my attempt of Aruluthiru Jeevada Gelaya. I hope u like it..
This one is especially for u K!

Movie Name : Mungaru Male
Music : Mano Murthy
Lyrics : Jayant Kaikini
Original Singer : Shreya Ghosal
Sung By : Vidyu

DownloadVidyuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01574630098937785654noreply@blogger.com37tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28459726.post-4822501563859260182007-09-26T22:41:00.001-05:002007-09-26T23:26:46.246-05:00Mere PiyaHow many of us remember Saapna Mukherjee – the pretty voice behind the then toppie Oye-Oye from Tridev and the famous songs from Jaanbaaz? Honestly, I had long forgotten the name :( A few months ago, while in a music store, I heard this beautiful song being played softly and it just got me..some songs are like that..u hear them once and something about it makes u want to listen to it over and over again :) so I went up to the what-can-i-call-him ? music store jockey? and asked what song he was playing. He told me it was from an Indipop album called Mere Piya which had just released .. I bought the CD and no regrets:) all songs are beautiful..most of all, Piya and I was just dying to sing it. But where could I get the track to a newly released song and that too a non-filmy one :(
Comes in Pulikeshi :) a friend I met through Taranaa. Both Pulikeshi and his wife Akshata are wonderful singers who have great voices. I asked him if he could figure how to make a Karaoke track from the original. And he surprised me with a reply saying he’d make a track for me! I couldn’t believe it! In less than 2 weeks he sent me this beautiful track he created – just for me to sing :) Thanks Pulikeshi.. You’ve done an awesome job with it!

Thought I’d share this with all of u & hope u'll like it :)

‘Piya’ is a song that can work with today’s generation while keeping the classical spirit alive. Always wanted to sing it...but somehow never got myself to doing it.. :) But, after all these years, when my dad asked me if I could sing this song I was more than happy to record and send it to him... I am SO glad Soumitra agreed to sing this with me. I couldn't have got a better voice to suit this beautiful song :) Soumitra, thankyou SO much! Need I say, U sound AWESOME!!! :)

- Vidyu

Movie Name :Saajan (1991)
Original Singers: Alka Yagnik, Kumar Sanu
Music : Nadeem-Shravan
Lyrics : Sameer
Year : 1991
Sung By : Vidyu & Soumitra

Download SongVidyuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01574630098937785654noreply@blogger.com33tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28459726.post-42578725539976420412007-05-11T23:44:00.001-05:002007-05-11T23:51:04.759-05:00Agar Tum Mil JaoHi friends,
it's been a very long time since I've been able to sing/update my blog. Finally, made some time :) This is one song I never thought much about the first time I heard it. But on my visit to India a couple of months ago, I heard it over and over again on the FM and the tune kind of grew on me..the lyrics are beautiful too and Shreya Ghoshal's style makes it all the more appealing.
When I started listening to the song with intentions of 'learning' it to record, I figured it's not so easy to sing this one :) Shreya has made it sound so simple :)
I hope u will like my attempt.
Thankyou for listening :)
Vidyu

Movie Name : Zeher
Lyricists : Sayeed Quadri
Music Director : Anu Malik
Original Singer: Shreya Ghoshal
Sung by : Vidyu

Vidyuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01574630098937785654noreply@blogger.com26tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28459726.post-65750092762424251652007-02-14T00:19:00.001-05:002007-02-14T00:19:49.818-05:00Valentine's dayOn Valentine's Day, the only genre that would cross ones mind would be romantic melodies. And, when I think of romantic melodies, I think duets sound the prettiest ... Aur Kya??? :) This is one of my most favorite duet by Abhijeet & Alka from the movie Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani picturised on SRK and Juhi Chawla ....love it! :)

I have a little story behind this song..A couple of months ago, when I got an opportunity to do a show with Abhijeet, he asked me to pick a favorite duet to sing with him and I instantly said "Aur Kya" .. and he
agreed to sing it.. :) I must say it was the most memorable experience for me to have got a chance to sing my favorite duet with the singer himself!

From then I have been wanting to record it but never got a chance to complete it until now ..Thanks SO much Soumitra for singing this with me....u have done an awesome job with it! Absolutley love it!

Hope u all enjoy it. We would love to hear ur
comments :)

Thankyou & Happy Valentine's Day!

Vidyu

Album :Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani
Music : Jatin-Lalit
Original : Abhijeet & Alka Yagnik
Sung By :Soumitra & Vidyu

Vidyuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01574630098937785654noreply@blogger.com26tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28459726.post-76671169769975472102007-02-04T23:14:00.003-05:002007-02-04T23:19:35.210-05:00Poojisalendhe (Kannada)Bangalore..the garden city of India.. a place that brings back beautiful, most cherished memories...a place where I've left behind my wonderful family, my friends...a place where I learnt to speak Kannada...and most of all, the place where I got to briefly learn
classical music .. Thoughts of Bangalore make me very nostalgic and this made me want to sing a Kannada song..a language in which I've never sung before... S. Janaki, one of the most versatile singer in my opinion, is my favorite among the South Indian female voices. I've always been intimidated by some of her songs..It's a feeling of wanting to sing the song so bad but a fear of not being able to :(
About a year ago, Ramesh, who I met thro' Taranaa sent me the track of this beautiful Kannada song by SJ from the movie Eradu Kanasu and asked me if I could try singing it. It's a song I loved the minute I heard it. Music by Rajan-Nagendra, the famous duo is just awesome and SJ has given it a mesmerizing effect with her unmatchable style ..
The track is by Manjula Gururaj of Sadhana Music School, Bangalore. Thanks Ramesh for sharing this with me! I'd really appreciate ur comments on my attempt and thanx in advance for listening :)

Also, I am happy to let u all know that the songs I recorded with Srikanth Devarajan is part of the album 'Padal' which released on the 26th of January, 2007.

For more information please visit

http://srikanthd.blogspot.com/2007/01/padal-available-now.html

- Vidyu

Movie : Eradu Kanasu (1974)
Music : Rajan, Nagendra
Original : S Janaki
Sung By : Vidyu

Vidyuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01574630098937785654noreply@blogger.com30tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28459726.post-1163391750231273892006-11-12T23:22:00.000-05:002007-01-23T18:03:59.376-05:00Revived!Hi! it's been a while since I've updated my blog.....have been so caught up in the routine :(
I have been trying to learn this awesome song 'Telusa Manasa' ..a Telugu duet from the movie Criminal by the great SPB & Chitra and remembered that I had sung the Hindi version months ago for Taranaa. I distinctly remembered Soumitra too had sung the same song and I'd loved his rendition. I asked him if he could lend me his voice so that I could combine both our songs and make it into a duet as it is in the movie..
Here's it is..a revival of our songs that were long forgotten and tucked away in our respective computers! :)

I've also recorded the title song from Hum Tum with Soumitra. He's done an awesome job with it.. Please do give it a listen and let us know what u think of it :)

Thanks much!

Movie Name : Criminal
Music : MM Kreem
Original By : Alka Yagnik & Kumar Sanu
Sung By : Vidyu & Soumitra

Vidyuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01574630098937785654noreply@blogger.com22tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28459726.post-1160801681284412082006-10-13T23:54:00.000-05:002006-11-07T04:33:00.256-05:00It's all about AnilIt's been about 6 months since I hv been part of the audio blogging community. Wow! 6 months! :-) seems like a long time ..The first time I posted my song Jadoo hai nasha hai, I got a comment from a great musician Anil BS and I checked out his blog and Anil, honestly felt honored that u even heard my song! He, as u all know is an amazing musician.. his tracks are sooo much like the original and when I got a track like that, all I wanted to do was give it my best shot, to try and do justice to the beautiful track.. This track for Yeh Sama is made by Anil and he sent it to me a while ago ... It's only now I could complete it and I hope u like it. I'd say, it is more about the track than the song! Anil, u hv done an awesome job! Thankyou SO much for sharing the track with me.. Also, a couple of weeks ago, I'd posted a malayalam song, Mainagam on my blog. It was just my voice as I had no track for it. Anil heard it and last week, he sent me an email saying he has added music to my song!!!! Well, we all have tried singing to a perfect Karaoke track..but how dificult could it be creating a track around a song that is already sung which is not perfectly in rhythm??? I must say Anil, it was a bold attempt and I so loved it..and want to share it with all of u. Hope u like it.. Please let us have ur comments.
Thanks
Vidyu

Mainagam
Vidyuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01574630098937785654noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28459726.post-1160800943607969452006-10-13T23:42:00.000-05:002006-12-07T03:02:05.240-05:00Song : Ye Sama Sama Hai Ye Pyar Ka
Music : Kalyanji Anandji
Movie : Jab Jab Phool Khile
Original Sung By: Lata Mangeshkar
Sung by: Vidyu
Track : Anil B S

Vidyuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01574630098937785654noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28459726.post-1159073449992735372006-09-23T23:50:00.000-05:002007-01-14T15:45:06.170-05:00Aao NaaSa Re Ga Ma Pa is one of my favorit'est' show and I've watched every single episode, some more than once :) I remember most of the songs performed by the participants and after Debojit won the contest there was this episode where all the 12 finalists came up to perform. The one song that absolutley got me was Aao Na performed by Debojit and Nihira...I'd never heard the original but I kept watching the recorded version of this show several times and then later figured this was originally sung by Udit Narayan & Sadhana Sargam..Debu & Nihira were no less in their performance of this song...Awesome...
From then I have been wanting to sing this one but couldn't lay my hands on the track.. Finally, sometime in June, I heard Soumitra's version of this song on Taranaa. He had sung it soo beautifully, I asked him if he'd let me borrow his voice. Though the track was always there on Taranaa, it was called Gunji si hai...and I didn't realise it was the same song! :) I recorded my 'version 1' sometime in July and then I got so busy with the summer break..family..friends and recording took a back seat :)
After 2 months, here I am with the completed version.. It was a lot of effort to make sure we both sang the swars together and Soumitra, I want to thank u so very much for lending me ur lovely voice and for helping me with feedback/correction in putting this song together.
This one time, I especially want to thank my family for putting up with my constant singing of Ga Ga Re Ga Ga Re for so many weeks that after a point, I almost got disowned :(
Thanks Pratika, Prarthana & Kush!!!! :)

Vidyu

Movie : Kyun Ho Gaya Na (2004)
Music : Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy
Original by : Udit Narayan and Sadhana Sargam
Sung by : Vidyu & Soumitra

Vidyuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01574630098937785654noreply@blogger.com21tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28459726.post-1157778782173715442006-09-09T00:13:00.000-05:002007-01-14T15:48:57.920-05:00Diwana Hua BaadalDear friends,
While Ashaji celebrated her B'day on the 8th, as a tribute to her, here is my attempt at Diwana Hua Baadal sung with Azam Khan. This is a duet very dear to me and it's with pleasure that I share this with all of u! Azam and I sang this a couple of weeks ago but we were both not very happy with the track and waited to get hold of a good track. And, when we did get a track, we both got so busy with routines that this project sat on the back burner :( I am so glad we finally finished it and Azam, thanks so much for singing this with me! You sound really good! Loved all your expressions and modulations!

Some time back Pradip suggested we sing this Malayalam duet "Swasathin Thalam" from the movie "Achuvinte Amma" and as soon as I heard it, I loved it! But, honestly, I was very unsure of being able to carry it off as it is more of a song with the play of breath than the voice itself. Took it as a challenge and practiced singing in whispers :) I was really thrilled when Pradip okayed it :) Here is the result! Pradip has not only sung sooo well, but has also done an awesome job with the mixing. Thanks so very much Pradip..
You will find 2 versions of the same song ..one with the doubling effect like the original and one without at Pradeep's blog.
So friends, please give it a listen... we've worked hard on this one :)
Thank you all for listening.

Vidyu

Song : Diwana Hua Baadal
Movie Name : Kashmir Ki Kali (1964)
Music : O P Nayyar
Original Sung By: Mohd Rafi and Asha Bhosle
Sung by : Azam Khan & Vidyu

Vidyuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01574630098937785654noreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28459726.post-1157086339772056862006-08-31T23:52:00.000-05:002007-01-30T07:51:53.730-05:00Malayalam SongsHello friends,
don't know if u all know this but I was fortunate to have been born in beautiful Kerala..Calicut and have been influenced by Malayalam language and music a great deal. I used to sing a lot of Malayalam songs until I was in Calicut but once I moved out I lost touch with it totally :( Many years later, actually, about a few months ago I chanced upon Jo's blog and got back to listening to Malayalam Karaoke songs. So when Jo asked me to do this song with Meera and him I was pleased. Unfortunately, there was no original song I could listen to but Jo had recorded the whole song for me and that's how I learnt it :)
Jo and Meera, thanks for ur patience and for giving me this opportunity to sing with u both....I know I took like forever to record my lines :( You both have done an awesome job singing this beautiful song..

I hope u will all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed singing it with the two great blogger friends!

You can listen to it in both Meera & Jo's blog.

Thought I'd share this recording which was done months ago...it's an old malayalam song 'Mainagam' from the 80's and was and still is one of my favorites by S.Janaki. Since I don't have any Karaoke tracks for Malayalam songs, I decided to record just my voice.

Thanks for listening..

Movie: Thrishna
Song : Mainagam
Music : Shyam
Original By: S. There was so much going on and didn't get a chance to. I'm sure everyone has been busy with family, kids, vacations...Soon we'll all be back to the regular routine and I am so ready for fall..my favorite time of the year. Not just the weather, I love the colors..makes me happy! :) Besides, I love the holidays..Halloween, Thanksgiving...decorating the home. We normally go for long drives just to enjoy the beauty of the fall colors.
Anyways, back to music..I have been busy with this project the past almost 2 months ever since Soumitra wrote to ask me if I'd like to sing a Bengali song with him. At first I was like."No way"!!! I mean, I don't even know the language! But he encouraged me to atleast give it a try before giving it up before attempting and I said "OK..send me the original, lyrics..let me see and no deadlines" :) and all the time I thought, this is never going to happen :) But the tune is sooo pretty and I have always liked the Hindi version. So, I tried and finally my version 3 was okayed! I have to thank our dear friends Amit & Vijaya for helping me with the diction, pronounciation. They spent a lot of time with me helping me to say the words right and also explain the meaning of the song. Soumitra, I have to thank u so very much for ur patience and for the trouble u took to translate the song for me. It helped a great deal. I know it is not perfect, but it has given me immense satisfaction of trying something different :)
Thanks for listening
-Vidyu

Song : Amar Swapna Tumi
Movie : Ananda Ashram
Music : Shyamal Mitra
Original By: Asha Bhosle & Kishore Kumar
Sung By : Vidyu & Soumitra

Vidyuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01574630098937785654noreply@blogger.com27tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28459726.post-1154317724339346402006-07-30T22:48:00.000-05:002007-01-19T15:19:47.050-05:00Tujhse Naaraz Nahin ZindagiHi friends,
After a seemingly long, stressful week, I made some time to record a song earlier today. It has been a while since I have and I really missed picking up that mic and singing :) So, the next question was "what do I sing"??? So many songs..so many lovely tunes..and I wanted to sing them all!!! You know how it is..when u get into a mood to sing, u want to sing them all :) Knew that was so not going to happen..so after a lot of thinking...major decision making (like it was a life and death matter!!!) I settled on this one...
I always have had a liking for RD songs..and this one especially used to be my favorite when it was new...years ago..and then totally forgot about it.. today I happened to see the track and decided to sing it..:)
Hope u all like it..
