My attempt at a Bengali Song

It's been 2 weeks since I recorded any new songs. There was so much going on and didn't get a chance to. I'm sure everyone has been busy with family, kids, vacations...Soon we'll all be back to the regular routine and I am so ready for fall..my favorite time of the year. Not just the weather, I love the colors..makes me happy! :) Besides, I love the holidays..Halloween, Thanksgiving...decorating the home. We normally go for long drives just to enjoy the beauty of the fall colors.
Anyways, back to music..I have been busy with this project the past almost 2 months ever since Soumitra wrote to ask me if I'd like to sing a Bengali song with him. At first I was like."No way"!!! I mean, I don't even know the language! But he encouraged me to atleast give it a try before giving it up before attempting and I said "OK..send me the original, lyrics..let me see and no deadlines" :) and all the time I thought, this is never going to happen :) But the tune is sooo pretty and I have always liked the Hindi version. So, I tried and finally my version 3 was okayed! I have to thank our dear friends Amit & Vijaya for helping me with the diction, pronounciation. They spent a lot of time with me helping me to say the words right and also explain the meaning of the song. Soumitra, I have to thank u so very much for ur patience and for the trouble u took to translate the song for me. It helped a great deal. I know it is not perfect, but it has given me immense satisfaction of trying something different :)

Thanks for listening
-Vidyu

Kia baat hai aap dono ki. Very enjoyable! The idea of singing in a different language is thrilling! Vidyu, hats off to your brave attempt. I know bengali comes natural to Soumitra but it was brilliant of him to come up with this idea. All mudulations sound great ... cannot comment on expression and emotions since the only bengali I know is "Ami tumake bhalo bhashi" from one of Kishore Da's song. You two sound very melodious and sweet. Thanks for sharing!

I loved the song , you both have done well. This song (hindi version) ‘saara pyar tumhara’ from Anand Math, I think was the one I was fond of. I even remember Uttamkumar in this song…nice to hear something that I had not heard for a long time.

Great job guys. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Is it the Bengali version of mujhko apne gale lagaa lo ? Haven't heard that song many times either, but the mukhDaa sounds somewhat similar in tune. Recording is excellent as always from you two. The synchronization is superb too. Thanks and keep singing...

Vidyu and Soumitra. What a nostalgic feeling. I went back to those days in Gujarat where I saw the movie.Extremely beautiful rendition by both. Vidyu you have now given me more options and there is more trouble for u coming on way...Now you will have to sing a Telugu song with me...:-)
The mixing was also soft and had the romantic element to it. Wonderful!

Dear Vidyu,

Wow, now you are becoming more and more versatile! Thats a mark of a great singer! Keep going with your multi-talented and multi-language singing and give us great numbers like you have always done so far! Your and Soumitra's rendition, tal-mel, emotions (I can feel!) have come out very well and you sound like a Bengali now! I won't be surprised next time when we meet you may ask me "bhalo achhen"?

Really awesome by both of you! Great idea Soumitra! Loved your rendition of this song! Very soft, romantic and emotional! Love all your songs!

Keep singing both of you! Vidyu, you should give some of the kannada songs' renditions too (which will be easy for you!). How'bout "Ni Nanna Hudgi"? I know that is not so much classical but I loved that one while I was in Karnataka! May be Hemanth could be your duet partner or Pradeep (I am sure he knows kannada too!).

Keep singing! :)

Beautiful!!! Very nicely done... Soumitra you need to improve your Bengali pronounciation though as you are expected to do better than this being a Bengali...

Vidyu / Soumitra:

Although I do not know bengali very well, I do have a good feel for bengali pronunication. I can definitely get a good bangla feel in Vidyu's pronunciation. Frankly, I believe Soumitra must have concentrated a bit more in the first antara. It is not flowing easily. Mukhada and Second antara are fine.

And about the composition itself - I think it is just run of the mill melody exempting very few good phrases.

You guys have sung very well.

BTW, this reminds me of the a tamil song:

"indha therku theru machchaanum themmaangu padichchaan"
